Usman Khawaja made his test debut today replacing Australian captain Ricky Ponting. What is phenomenal about Usman Khawaja getting selected to represent Australian team is that he is an immigrant from Pakistan and he is Muslim. The defeat against England in the Ashes and his spectacular 121 against South Australia at the beginning of December earned him the baggy green cap.
Nick named Usie, Khawaja is a left hand top order batsman and he will play Ricky Ponting’s number three position at the fifth Ashes test. Usman has appeared in 27 first class matches with an average of 51.70 and he also balls right arm fast medium. Before being selected to national team he played for Australia A, Australia Under-19s, Australian Institute of Sports, New South Wales.
Usman’s proud parents Tariq and Fozia were seen in the pavilion watching Khawaja’s debut test inning. According to Simon katich khawaja is the most popular guy in the New South Wales Cricket team.
