Sri Lanka Cricket team in England – 1st Practise match highlights

Sri Lanka cricket team is touring England for five One Day Internationals, three test matches and one T 20 match. This tour also include two One day International matches against two European associate cricket teams, Netherlands and Ireland. This is theThilakarathna Dilshan is leading Sri Lanka cricket team after taking over from Kumar Sangakkara.

Sri Lanka team started the tour in a winning note by defeating Middlesex cricket club in the first tour match. Batting first Middlesex cricket club scored 360 runs for eight wickets. England national team skipper Andrew Strauss scored a century (151). Dan Housego also made 104 runs. Rangana Herath, Chanaka Welagedara and Ajantha Mendis took three wickets each.

In reply Sri Lanka team scored 309 runs. Both Sri lankan openers hit centuries before they got retired out. Thilakaratha Dilshan’s 123 runs only needed 134 balls and Tharanga Paranavithana scored 103 runs. Young Sri Lankan cricketers Lahiru Thirimanna and Dinesh Chandimal scored 28 and 42 runs respectively.

In their second inning England batsmen could only score 161 runs. Young Suranga Lakmal started the break through as he balled Middlesex opener Robson for no run. Chanaka Welagedara and Ajantha Mendis took three wickets each.

Sri Lanka had a target of 213 runs and they had limited number of overs to play before the end of the day. Prasanna Jayawardana and Lahiru Thirimanna started the inning instead of regular openers. Sri Lanka could reach the winning socre for the fall of six wickets and Thilan Samaraweera top scored with 49 runs.
