Rajiva Wijesinha, a Sri Lankan member of parliament, and adviser on reconciliation to the president, was interviewed today by AlJazeera News Channel with regards to the claims and footage aired by British broadcaster Channel 4 which alleges Sri Lankan troops carried out atrocities near the end of the civil war.
Prof. Rajiva Wijesingha is the government legislator who deals with war crime allegations and during war time he was the Director of Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace process (SCOPP). Prof. Rajiva was selected as a member of parliament under the ruling party National list following last general election.
Sri Lanka Defense secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksha also has already denied the allegations and Sri Lanka government believe this is an attempt to disgrace Sri Lanka with ulterior motives. You can watch the Channel 4 video here in our previous post.
Meanwhile British Foreign Affairs Minister Alsitair Burt has emphasized the need for an investigation into the allegations of atrocities committed during the civil war. Sri Lankan High Commission denied the accusations and identify Burts comments as influenced by the Pro-LTTE groups in Britain.
