Given below is the procedure to obtain a temporary driving license in Sri Lanka, issued to those planning to stay in Sri Lanka for less than two months under Visit Visa.
For those not familiar with Sri Lankan road rules, you drive on the left side of the road, like for instance in England and Australia.
Along with the driving license, a revenue license too must be carried in the vehicle. It is obligatory for all vehicle owners to renew the license annually. If you are hiring or renting a vehicle, ensure that the revenue license is valid, as the traffic police regularly check this document.
The official speed limit is generally around 50 to 70 kilometers an hour, although it could vary depending on the area and the type of vehicle being driven. It is advisable to wear a seat belt.
