Hope you watch the fifth and final One Day International match today between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Sri Lanka cricket team could chase the massive total of 312 runs and this was their second consecutive successful run chase over 300. Almost all the batsmen chipped in the chase. Opener Upul Tharanga as dominant early in the inning and scored 46 runs in 39 balls. Following the fall of Tharanga, other batsmen did not allow to slip the run rate. Kumar Sangakkara who as the man of the match scored a 102 runs and young Lahiru Thirimanna scored his maiden ODI half century (69 runs). But my objective of this article is not to talk about them but Sachithra Senanayaka who hit a golden six runs in his first appearance in ODI.
Sachithra Senanayaka’s first inning will be a memorable one for all the cricket fans all around the world. Sri Lankan lost their hope when Lahiru Thirimanna got out at the third ball of the last over. Sri Lanka had to score five more runs to in the game. Sachithra Senanayaka playing in his only second ODI and did not get a chance in the first game. The fourth ball of the last over was to ne comer Sachithra and he defended the ball to everybody’s amusement. To the second ball he bent his knees and got under the Pieterson’s delivery hitting an unexpected six by the South Africans.
Sachithra Senanayaka has been knocking the national team door a while. He is an off spinner and he is also handy with the bat. Six feet in height, this old Anandian has played in 59 first class matches with balling average of 20.50 and batting average of 19.67. His first international appearance was against South Africa in the fourth ODI fe days back.
