Once the best fast bowling superhero of Sri Lanka Cricket team, Chaminda Vass (Full name – Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas ) is now back in to the picture. As you may know that Chaminda Vass stand only second to Muthiah Muraltharan in the list of most wickets as a Sri Lankan bowler. Chamninda had the unique ability to swing the new and old ball.

Chaminda Vass, known as Vasi, is a charming friendly character in both the field and off the field. Despite being one of the fastest bowlers in the world of cricket, Chaminda Vass has never vented his aggression by gesture or words in the field. Instead, he expressed his impulses with his talented balling in the field. Off the field, Vassi never forgot to enjoy his time with his buddies. Moreover, Vassi has featured in few Sri Lankan songs past few years. There is no secret to Sri Lankan Cricket fans that Chamninda Vass is more than a good cricketer, but also a good singer.

Today we are posting a recent video of Vassi with his friends having merry time with one of the UK bands, ” The Islanders,” in a small home party. There is no doubt these fellas are in the climax of their booze and continuing to have their little fun.

A sinister campaign has been orchestrated by the English and Indian media camps to drag dashing Sri Lankan opening batsman Thilekaratna Dilshan in to a match fixing fiasco involving Bollywood actress Nupur Mehta. The sole aim of this mudslinging is to mentally demoralise the former Sri Lankan cricket captain and his team ahead of the England Sri Lanka test series.

This little known stunning Indian starlet having made only two Bollywood movie appearances, which were not that much successful at box office, shot in to fame worldwide after The Sunday Times paper in the UK published a blurred image of her, revealing that she was used by bookies as a honey trap to lure cricketers in to match fixing during the 2009 ICC World Twenty 20 held in England. Nupur has vehemently dismissed this allegations and has threatened sue the paper for defamation over the accusations and for the use picture without her consent.

It is claimed that during the Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup she was accommodated with a bookmaker in the same hotel the cricketers were staying and that the bookie wanted her to develop a close relationship with Dilshan to lure him to fix a match involving Sri Lanka.

When this was published in the Daily Mail Nupur agreed to have been staying in the same hotel but initially denied to have been in contact with any player nor sharing the hotel with anyone. But in a twist to this controversy she soon changed her story and admitted meeting cricketers at a casino in London. She also admitted to have been dating Dilshan during the Twenty 20 World Cup in England. Dilshan has been married to a Sri Lankan actress since 2008.

In the backdrop of this scenario Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) released a media statement in defence of Dilshan condemning the comments and accusations against Dilshan and that it does not intend to comment on the said story any further in view of its baseless nature. When Dilshan’s wife, Manjula Thilini was asked to comment on the reports against her husband her response was that the matter was not worth giving her view.

This is not the first time that the English Media has propelled up a controversy against a Sri Lankan Cricketer. In the hey days of former ace off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, who eventually went on to be test crickets highest wicket taker, various theories were invented to accuse the master spinner for chucking. These theories all died down in time but surfaced just before the commencement of an England Sri Lanka series. These are well planned events launched by media power houses such as Britain for their teams to have a mental advantage over the opposition before an important series. Murali has now retired, so it seems that they have chosen Dilshan as bait for their western hypocrisy. The English Media has timed it well just before the first test between Sri Lanka and England in Galle. The Englishmen naturally have a very poor test record in the subcontinent, as evident by their recent walloping by Pakistan in the UAE, and these are malicious attempts by the English Media to unsettle the Sri Lankan cricket team. One may even argue this to be an attempt by the English media to hide the shame of the match fixing scandal pertaining their county cricket. So are the men who call themselves purists of the game.

The involvement of a Bollywood actress has made the Indian media to sensationalize this story. The Indian Media’s mudslinging campaign against Dilshan is for a different reason and it seems to be in retaliation of Sri Lanka ousting India from the CB series in Australia and not winning against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup to pave way for India to the finals.

It is well-known fact that cricket fans in Sri Lanka are intelligent and are highly educated about the game. They know how to share the joys of winning and bear the heartache of losing unlike the Indian fans and no matter what happens, win or lose; they will always stand by their cricket team. This is an instance where the Dilshan will need the full support of the entire Sri Lankan cricket fraternity. They know that their cricketers despite being not paid in the last year played for the sheer love of the game and would not any bring dishonest to the country. The Sri Lankan fans also are wise enough to see this as a yet another bullying attempt by the former colonial master and the neighbouring big brother. Readers are invited to post comments on this controversy.

Separamadu Lasith Malinga or “Slinga Malinga” is the most unusual fast bowler ever in the Cricketing history with tons of records under his name. With his rare round arm action sometimes referred to as a sling action he has hunted almost all the super batsmen in the cricket world today. Anyone who love cricket knows his records as a bowler and how Lasith’s performances in the ongoing CB series, yet how many of them know who is Lasith Malinga’s wife? As it says ‘there’s a woman behind in every successful man’ it is Tanya Perera the lovely wife of the cricketing hero Lasith Malinga.

Tanya Minoli Perera is the youngest in family of two, Father Lalith Perera, Mother Kanthi Perera and Brother Charith Perera. Although Tanya’s home town is Matara, she went to Vishaka Vidyalaya Colombo, and did her A/L’s in Commerce stream. Tanya has done her higher studies in Management and started her career as a Banker and later on joined a private company as the Public Relations Manageress. As her father was in USA, Tanya was planning to visit there to continue her higher studies when she met Lasith which eventually end as a wife of a legendary cricketer.

Lasith Malinga first met Tanya Perera as a Brand Ambassador of a Private firm at a hotel in Hikkaduwa where Tanya’s company handled the advertising campaign. It was an ordinary meeting, but when the same programme was in Galle the two of them became good friends and Lasith managed to get her cellular number.

“I was not a cricket over when I first met Lasith and even my family members are not cricket fans. So I was not a fan of Lasith Malinga the cricketer.”

“ Lasith is a simple down to earth man, that’s why I like him; he’s a straight forward guy and when he asked me whether likes to marry him I told him to ask my parents first, which he did.”

“First he met my mother and brother as my father was in USA, and when my father came back he too had a deep discussion with Lasith regarding our future, because my father was more concerned about what it would like be his daughter’s life with a cricketer who travels a lot and has less time to spend with his family.”

“Our horoscopes were a perfect match and most importantly Lasith is a non smoker and non alcoholic, so both of our parents gave their full blessings to our relationship. We used to discuss a lot and exchange our thoughts during our two years relationship which eventually happened to be the main reason for our good family life.”

Lasith Malinga Tanya Perera wedding was held on 22nd January 2010 at the Waters’ Edge Hotel Battaramulla. Tanya was in a Kandyan wedding dress dressed by Dananjaya Bandara. Angelo Mathews and Chamara Silva were the Best men.

“I accompany him whenever possible in his foreign tours and its great pleasure to watch him taking wickets. Lasith doesn’t like partying and loves to stay at home, Jothipala and Milton Mallawarachchi are his favorite singers, doesn’t like reading but love to watch matches in TV.”

“We have a good mutual understanding, otherwise it’s very hard when tons of gossips published in media, in fact I sometimes teased him over the gossip news, but Lasith doesn’t care those much and we enjoyed reading them.”

“When Bollywood actress Amisha Patel has said she loves to give him a hug and a kiss, Lasith was unaware of such an actress. Amisha was also come to watch the World Cup finals.”

On 9th September 2011 Tanya and Lasith blessed with a Baby Daughter. You can watch one of Lasith Malinga and Tanya Perera’s TV interview here.

Hope you watch the fifth and final One Day International match today between Sri Lanka and South Africa. Sri Lanka cricket team could chase the massive total of 312 runs and this was their second consecutive successful run chase over 300. Almost all the batsmen chipped in the chase. Opener Upul Tharanga as dominant early in the inning and scored 46 runs in 39 balls. Following the fall of Tharanga, other batsmen did not allow to slip the run rate. Kumar Sangakkara who as the man of the match scored a 102 runs and young Lahiru Thirimanna scored his maiden ODI half century (69 runs). But my objective of this article is not to talk about them but Sachithra Senanayaka who hit a golden six runs in his first appearance in ODI.

Sachithra Senanayaka’s first inning will be a memorable one for all the cricket fans all around the world. Sri Lankan lost their hope when Lahiru Thirimanna got out at the third ball of the last over. Sri Lanka had to score five more runs to in the game. Sachithra Senanayaka playing in his only second ODI and did not get a chance in the first game. The fourth ball of the last over was to ne comer Sachithra and he defended the ball to everybody’s amusement. To the second ball he bent his knees and got under the Pieterson’s delivery hitting an unexpected six by the South Africans.

Sachithra Senanayaka has been knocking the national team door a while. He is an off spinner and he is also handy with the bat. Six feet in height, this old Anandian has played in 59 first class matches with balling average of 20.50 and batting average of 19.67. His first international appearance was against South Africa in the fourth ODI fe days back.

Followings are Sachithra Senanayaka’s records in first class and list A matches. The first box contain batting and fielding averages and the second box shows his balling averages.
